Figured it was the frame and examined it carefully with a light and a magnifying glass but couldn't find anything, and then the frame (chainstay) finally broke. It...I once had a clicking noise on my touring bike. It drove me nuts until I realized it was the aglet on a string of my jacket that was ticking across the top tube as I pedalled. So check to see if your shoe laces aren't hitting the cranks or one of the tubes. <br />Otherwise, you could have a form of bicycling tinnitus for which there is no cure.
